On Tuesday BCCI announced 16-men squad for the ODI series against New-Zealand. Opener Gabbar (ShikharDhawan) who was the part of T-20 squad has been ruled out due to shoulder injury. Sanju Samson has been called in place of Gabbar in T-20 squad and young Prithvi Shaw has been named for ODI squad due to his current form (Score 150 in 100 balls)against New-Zealand.

Shikhar had a great series against Australia Scoring 74 in First ODI and 96 In Second.

Last year in November Dhawan got injury in his left knee because a piece of wood from his pad tore through his knee and had multiple stitches.

Likewise in June 2019 he was ruled out of ICC world cup due to hairline fracture in his left hand thumb in the winning match against Australia where he scored 117 runs.

Looking at his current form and the experience he has ,his exclusion for New-Zealand tour is going to be a great challenge for Indian top order.

Conclusion: It would be interesting to see how India will perform on New-Zealand soil without experienced Dhawan. It also will be a great challenge for KL Rahul to fit the shoes of Dhawan in his absence in New-Zealand tour.

What do you think about the Exclusion of Gabbar..??

International Career

Samson first selected to the squad in 2014 against England for 5 match ODI series and a T-20 but only warming the bench as a backup keeper for MS Dhoni.

Sanju made his international debut against Zimbabwe in 2015 at Harare where he made 19 runs.

Played second match after more than 4 years on January 10, 2020 against Sri-Lanka and played just 2 balls. The 2 matches are the only one the sanju has played for Men in Blue in his start and pause career.

Matches: 2

Innings: 2

Runs: 25

Avg: 12.5

SR: 96.15

Do you think 2 balls were enough for Sanju to showcase his talent and that too after span of more than 4 years…??

IPL Career

Matches: 93

Innings: 89

Runs: 2209

Avg: 27.61

SR: 130.25

Chosen as the “Best young Player” of the 2013 Season of IPL through an official Pole and thrid highest scorer in IPL season 2016.

Conclusion

After being so impressive in IPL BCCI needs to think about selection strategy and give more opportunities to Samson to excel his career. 2 Balls or 2 matches in a span of almost five years are not enough to decide whether or not player is worthy enough.

What do you think about Samson not being the part of T-20 squad against New Zealand.??
